The Khumbu Region, commonly referred to as the Everest Region, is one of Nepal's most famous and well-known trekking destinations. The world's highest mountain, Mount Everest, inspired the name of the structure. Trekking in the Everest region provides an amazing experience with beautiful views of the mountains, Sherpa communities, and breathtaking sceneries.
Everest Base Camp Trek is the most popular trek in the region. It typically takes around 12 days to complete, depending on the itinerary and acclimatization needs. The trek takes you through diverse terrain, including lush forests, suspension bridges, high-altitude valleys, and glacial moraines. The final destination is the Everest Base Camp, where climbers gather to prepare for their ascent of Mount Everest. From there, you can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding peaks, including Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Ama Dablam.
Another famous trek in the Everest Region is the Gokyo Lakes Trek. It takes you to the beautiful turquoise lakes of Gokyo, offering stunning views of the Cho Oyu mountain and the Ngozumpa Glacier. The trek also includes a visit to the Gokyo Ri viewpoint, which provides a breathtaking panoramic view of the Everest region. The region is known for its Sherpa culture and hospitality. The Sherpa people are renowned for their mountaineering skills and have a deep connection with the mountains. The Everest Region has well-developed trekking infrastructure with numerous teahouses, lodges, and facilities along the trekking routes. Namche Bazaar, the gateway to the Everest region, serves as a major trading center and provides trekkers with various services and amenities. To trek in the Everest Region, you need to obtain a Sagarmatha National Park entry permit, as the region falls within the national park area. Additionally, you will require a TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management System) card and Khumbu Rural Municipality Permit.
